This suburb’s crime past…
New Farm hasn’t always been the suburb that rates a nine out of 10 for tranquillity.
Go back 30 or more years and the reaction was likely to be, “New Farm? Why on earth would you want to live there?”
What they really meant of course was, “What about the unsavoury characters, the shady dealings, the houses of ill-repute, and the occasional murder?”
‘Crime in New Farm’ is the topic of the Society’s June meeting.
The speaker is to be journalist Matt Condon (pictured) who has written the definitive account of an era that changed Queensland society. Matthew is well placed to offer details about how ‘colourful’ this suburb used to be, in comparison with today’s profound gentility.
2-4pm | Merthyr Road Uniting Church Centre.
