Uncovering the fascinating story about a trail-blazing young woman was initially and literally like“pulling teeth”! Martha Burns, who was born and bred in New Farm, was relatively unknown in 2013;her inclusion on a WWI Honour Board in Saint Andrew’s Uniting Church, however, prompted a fascinating research journey.
Who was this woman named on the Honour Board? Why was her name there? What did LDQ after her name mean? Where did she fit into Brisbane society? What happened to her after the war? How? When? There were so many unanswered questions …… until, slowly, the research began to unravel the mystery and the remarkable Miss Martha emerged …
